The Restaurant

The name ‘Lanna' , comes from the old Capital of the Northern Province if the Thai Kingdom . It was founded by King Mengrai, who first built Chiang Rai in 1281, and Chiang Mai (means new town) in 1296 and the now established ‘Lanna' known as the Capital of North Thailand . ‘Lanna' means ‘Land of the million rice fields'.

The restaurant is owned and run by the same family, who have many years experience in the restaurant business, both in Thailand and the United Kingdom . We take great pride in maintaining our traditional Thai cuisine, which we hope that you will enjoy. If there are any special requests and instructions in the preparation and of the cooking of your chosen meal, please do not hesitate to ask any of our staff, and or our residential chef, who would only be too pleased to assist.

The Cuisine

Traditional Thai food is a combination between Chinese and Indian cuisine. Thai cuisine is a balance of selected tastes from a variety of dishes, such as hot and spicy, a curry dish, a stir fry dish and, or a soup dish, etc.

Thai meals are eaten with just a spoon and fork, and traditionally the order of eating your meal from a range of dishes is unimportant. Typically, one would start with a small helping from one dish, along with a portion of rice, then moving on to another dish. As a general rule try not to mix too many different flavours on your plate, as this takes away the true taste of our fine Thai cuisine.

Many of our Thai dishes can be prepared to your requirements, such as a mild dish to an extremely hot dish, all preparations are cooked fresh to order.
